Isabella can READ! Jack can build!

We have been doing Pre-K Hooked on Phonics since September and Isabella finished it up last week.  She completed learning her Alphabet, both uppercase and lowercase letters and the sounds they make.  We also worked on rhyming, identifying what letter words start with, and identifying ending and beginning sounds.  We were ready to move on to the Kindergarten level!

We received it this week and hit the ground running.  I could tell right away that it was more mentally challenging for her than the Pre-K edition. Her attention span was far less.  I think she liked how quickly she could go through the pages of the Pre-K sometimes doing 5 different letters in a sitting.  She breezed through the majority of Pre-K.

The first lesson in the Kindergarten was "at" words.  She was so excited to start that she got it right away, you could tell she was really trying.  This video is of her reading these "at" words for the first time, with little to no help from me.



We are so proud of her hard work and her accomplishment!  She is also learning to write her letters.  At first I was worried about them looking "right", but realized that at just 3.5 years old, what she is doing is great and her handwriting will get better as she practices.  Here she wrote "Mom" and "cat."

Then she wrote "Jack".  All of these are from memory.  She knows the letters of the words and can write them herself.  I did help her with the "J."  We had to practice that a few times because her inclination is to take the hook of the J the other direction.

Speaking of Jack.  Here is Jack building with the blocks.  He has recently started to show interest in building. He will ask me to get the blocks down for him and away he goes.  He likes to build towers.

These two are definitely growing up.  It is fun to have two kids.  Jack is definitely less of a baby now and more of a kid.  I am enjoying that.
